After being delayed due to the hurricanes, the Music at St. John’s concert series kicks off its 13th season this month.

The first of the four concerts is Sunday Nov. 9 and will feature New Orleans native Brian Stratton.

Stratton is a tenor who specializes in spirituals. He has also performed opera, concert recitals, Broadway revues, and oratorios in the United States and abroad, including four performances at the White House.

All concert series performances are held on Sundays at 3 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 718 Jackson St. in Thibodaux.

Attendees can meet with the performers during a reception that follows each concert at the church’s parish hall next door.

Music at St. John’s is a nonprofit organization not affiliated with the church.

“Some folks in the community just decided that Thibodaux needed a place to experience chamber music,” said LaDonna Alexander, president of Music at St. John’s.

With seating capacity for about 120, St. John’s Episcopal Church is ideal for chamber music.

“It’s very intimate and has wonderful acoustics because of all the wood in the church and the way it’s spaced,” Alexander said.

Season tickets to all four concerts will be on sale at the door.

Admission for individual concerts is $10 for adults and $5 for college students. Children 18 years and younger get in free.
