Area runners have their weekends covered this month.

The Max Charter School is ready to run with its Race for Their Future 5-K and 1-Mile Run/Walk.


It begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 20, at the John Guidry Stadium on the Nicholls State University campus.


The Max Charter School’s focus is on teaching students with dyslexia and other related learning issues. Proceeds will help purchase technology software and hardware, library books and recreational equipment.

Saturday, March 20, marks the start of the 10th Annual Raceland Upper Elementary School 5-K Run for Education.


You can’t miss the big pink school at 3759 La. Highway 308 in Raceland. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the race gun fires at 9 a.m.

Refreshments, health screening and fingerprinting will be ready at the finish line.

Proceeds will be used to purchase instructional and supplemental materials.

And finally, the Super Cooper 5K and 1-Mile Heart Run rounds out the month Saturday, March 27.

Go to The Workout Company at 443 Corporate Drive in Houma. Registration begins at 7 a.m., followed by the 1-mile Kids’ Fun Run at 8 a.m., and then the 5K Run.

“The Biggest Loser” participants Abby Rike and Vicky Vilcan will be on hand before and after the race to meet everyone and answer questions, sign autographs and take photos.
