Big bargain hunters should stop by the Buquet Pavilion on the grounds of the Southdown Plantation House Aug. 23 when the plantation’s seventh annual Yard Sale takes place from 8 a.m. to noon, rain or shine.

Money raised from the yard sale will help fund the programs and exhibits of Southdown Plantation House & the Terrebonne Museum.

“It’s helping a great organization,” said Jonathan Foret, director of the Terrebonne Museum located inside the house. “It’s preserving the culture and history of Terrebonne Parish.”

In past years, the event has raised between $1,000 and $1,800.

The list of things for sale at the event is as long as the August day. Items will include home furnishings, kitchen goods, glassware, giftware, seasonal decorations, and accessories. The sale also includes shoes, purses, tools, baskets, books, toys, games, CDs, DVDs, video and audiotapes.

In previous years, large furniture pieces, big appliances and clothing have not been accepted because of problems with displaying and sorting them into types and sizes.
