Acoustic jazz guitar master Tony Green and Gypsy Jazz ring in the new year Jan. 11 as part of Music at St. John’s Concert Series at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Thibodaux.

“Jazz in January,” as the concert has been dubbed, features Green. The Italian-born musician was raised in North Africa and New Orleans, and educated at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C. His unique interpretations are inspired by the iconic Django Rheinhardt, an unschooled gypsy musician who became the first European to influence American jazz musician. An acclaimed musician and visual artists on both sides of the Atlantic, Green divides his time between New Orleans and Venice, Italy.

Rhythm guitarist Rick Olivarez and Steve Braun on upright bass are his accompanists for the “Jazz in January” performance. The group’s repertoire draws from both classic and jazz.

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for college students and free for students under age 18.
