People can visit any Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) location on Thursday, Nov. 21 for the Great American Smokeout, a nationwide all-day tobacco cessation event.

The theme for CIS this year will be “celebration,” and each clinic will feature a different party-themed display with resources of the CIS Commit to Quit program as well as interactive games and prizes.

Commit To Quit at CIS uses a comprehensive approach, combining medical evaluations, medications (both prescription and nicotine replacement) and supportive counseling sessions (both individually and as a group).

Some of these services may be available to Louisiana residents free of charge through benefits of the Louisiana Smoking Cessation Trust.

Since the start of the program in 2013, CIS has treated more than 10,000 patients for smoking cessation and has a success rate that is five times higher than the national average. Eliminating the use of tobacco dramatically reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer and lung disease. CIS works with each patient individually on a personalized quit plan.
