Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is essential for everyone. When we say the word health, it includes physical as well as mental health. Present day lifestyles have become hectic and confusing.

A healthy lifestyle doesn’t mean a body without any disease or illness, but it does imply a well-maintained body. There are people who have beautiful skin, hair and bodies, and they look fit and healthy in every way. They appear happy and relaxed. Although these individuals might have a busy lifestyle and hectic schedules, it is possible they maintain their day to day activities and food habits in such a way that it reflects on their face and body.

The idea behind leading a healthy lifestyle is to give yourself and your children a better chance of good health. Many of the diseases which have become common such as high blood pressure, Diabetes, and high cholesterol are due to unhealthy lifestyles, stress and poor food habits.

Here are a few things which are essential for maintaining a healthy lifestyle:

Don’t skip breakfast due to lack of time in the morning. Breakfast gives you the right amount of energy and essential nutrients after sleeping for 8-9 hours.

Eat a healthy breakfast in the morning like oats, fruits or anything which has less oil. Never skip your meals. There is a misconception that skipping a meal will help you lose weight. Skipping a meal makes you weaker and hungrier and you end up eating more than required. Skipping a meal has many other bad effects on your digestive system as it gives you acidity or some other complications.

Try to include more fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet, avoid processed or fast foods in excess, eat more freshly made meals and try to drink 8-10 glasses of water per day.

Take ‘movement breaks’. Do not sit for long periods of time or spend more time with electronics than you do moving. This will not only help you lose weight and be more active, but this also has a positive effect on your eyes and brain.

Keep track of what you are eating. Do not overeat or starve yourself. Include any kind of physical activity that you may find fun such as walking, jogging, dancing, or aerobics.

Find a hobby such as painting, music or photography. Listen to your favorite music or read your favorite book. Take a break, visit a destination or any place you have been wanting to go.  Getting fresh air and enjoying a peaceful atmosphere will aid in a healthy mind and automatically be reflected on your face.

Get involved in any kind of exercise for at-least 20-30 minutes per day. Walk or use stairs instead of elevators. Physical exercise or walking normalizes blood circulation and heart rate.

Instilling these healthy habits into your child’s life from a very young age is important for the success of their health as an adult. A healthy lifestyle will lead you to stay fit, longer and cheerful throughout your life and that of your child!•
