Hello, friends! This month I am not only looking forward to Thanksgiving, but I’m also excited about celebrating Veterans Day.

Veterans Day is a national holiday celebrated on November 11 that honors all living people who have served or are currently serving in the military. The holiday was originally known as Armistice Day which honored the day World War I ended, November 11, 1918. In 1954, Congress changed the holiday to Veterans Day to honor all men and women who served in the U.S. military. Across the country, Veterans Day is celebrated with parades, speeches, and ceremonies.

Many people write letters or send care packages to service members

abroad to thank them for their service on Veterans Day. If you would like to write a service member, you can send your letter to Support Our Troops, 13791 N. Nebraska Ave., Tampa, FL 33613. For letter guidelines, visit supportourtroops.org/cards-letters.

Sending a Care Package

Penny plans to send a care package to a member of our military this Veterans Day. She has decided to rake yards in her community to raise money for the care package. Each pile of leaves below represents a yard Penny has raked. If she earns $5 per yard, how much money has she earned?
