On Saturday, May 7, 2022, Terrebonne General Health System will present the 21st  Annual Run for Excellence and Best of the  Fest — an evening filled with music, food, drinks, fun, and of course, running — benefitting Terrebonne Foundation for Academic Excellence (TFAE). The annual event is held in Downtown Houma.
“After a two-year hiatus, TAFE is excited to bring this event back to the community. This event is truly unique because it directly supports our hard-working educators and our kids in Terrebonne Parish,” says Ashlee Barahona, Executive Director. “We could not do it without the support of our community, food partners, Terrebonne General, our volunteers, and support from our sponsors.
New to the event this year is the Inaugural Battle of the Bands. H. L. Bourgeois High School, South Terrebonne High School, and Terrebonne High School will battle for a chance to take home prize money for their school’s program. The Battle of the Bands will take place before the race begins at 3 p.m., and is free to attend. The Battle of the Bands will be followed by live entertainment from Brianna and Evan.
Race activities will kick off with a warm-up for all runners at 5:20 p.m., led by the health experts from Terrebonne General Health System Sports Performance Center. Once the runners are warmed up, TFAE turns up the heat with a Second Line for all runners to the starting line on Church Street. The 5K Run/Walk will begin promptly at 6 p.m.
The fun continues when the Food Fest/After Party opens to the public at 6:30 p.m. This year’s Food Court will include a wide assortment of delicious all-you-can-eat (after purchase of entry ticket) grub from over 20 local restaurants and organizations that will include hamburgers, brisket sliders, and desserts, jambalaya, chicken sandwiches and so much more, thanks to our food court partners.
If you thought this event couldn’t get hotter, TFAE welcomes the Hacienda Brass Band to the stage for the night, bringing the all energy and excitement of Jazz Fest directly to Houma.
The family-friendly event also features a Kids Corner with games and activities for all children that attend.
Online registration ends May 4. Registration for the race is $30.00, which includes entry to the all-you-can-eat/drinks Food Fest/After Party. You can also purchase just a festival ticket at the gate. Children under 4 get in free. Kids 5-20 pay $15.00 and those 21 and older pay $25.00. For more information, please visit the event website: www.runforexcellence.com
Participants will still be able to register on the day of the event from 3 to 6 p.m. This registration will also include a t-shirt (while supplies last) and entrance to the Food Fest.
The Run for Excellence is the primary fundraiser for TFAE. The funds are used to help local educators fund their programs through grants. With over $1,200,000 in grants awarded to local educators, TFAE has become a valuable source for Terrebonne’s public schools when funding various projects and programs.
