An east Houma teen is facing a number of charges after leading police in a high-speed chase Monday in his mother’s car, a Houma Police spokesman said.

Lt. Todd Duplantis said the 15-year-old’s mother called police around 5:11 p.m. saying the teen had taken her 1985 Plymouth Reliant without her permission. The car had been parked at her Norman Street home, the spokesman said.

Duplantis said a BOLO n “be on the lookout” n was issued to area police units. Shortly afterward, he said Officer Keith Bergeron spotted the car traveling on Park Avenue near Morgan Street. The teen ignored the police unit’s emergency lights, continued to pass two vehicles and made a right turn onto Morrison Avenue, Duplantis said.

The Plymouth topped 60 mph before the teen locked up the tires and came to a screeching stop in the 800 block of Morrison Avenue. The 15-year-old surrendered to police, Duplantis said.

The boy has been charged with no insurance, no vehicle registration papers, felony flight from an officer, no driver’s license and on a probation warrant.
