Lafourche Parish deputies arrested two Thibodaux men and issued an arrest warrant for a third person in connection with Monday’s drive-by shooting in Marydale Subdivision that left a 30-year-old man in critical condition, authorities said.

Nathaniel Bradley, 23, of 475 Triple Oaks Court, and Richard Shelby Jr., 23, of 394 Triple Oaks Court, were charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder and two counts of aggravated second-degree battery. Detectives are searching for Amos Washington, 23, of 367 Triple Oaks Court, whom authorities believe fired a shotgun at the pedestrians.

The shooting occurred in the 200 block of Ridgeway Street shortly after 3 a.m., Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Larry Weidel said.

The 30-year-old and a friend were reportedly standing on the side of the road when a dark-colored vehicle approached them, Weidel said. The occupants of the car opened fire, he said. The victim returned fire, shooting several rounds from a handgun in his possession. Detectives recovered 15 spent casings from a 9mm, .22-caliber and .38-caliber weapon.

According to Weidel, the 30-year-old was struck in the back by bullet. He was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center where he underwent surgery. On Tuesday, the shooting victim was listed in critical condition.

Approximately an hour after the shooting, a second man – Shelby – arrived at Thibodaux Regional complaining of a gunshot wound to the shoulder, Weidel said.

Shelby reportedly told detectives he had been shot in Marydale Subdivision. According to Weidel, Shelby said he had been involved in an altercation with men at Breedy’s nightclub in Thibodaux. One of the men allegedly challenged Shelby to a fight, which he refused.

Shelby called Washington, who is his cousin, and Bradley for a ride and left the nightclub, Weidel said.

With Shelby in the back seat, the trio drove around the area looking for the men who had challenged him at the nightclub.

Shelby told detectives Washington fired at the two men standing on Ridgeway Street, Weidel said. During the exchange, a bullet struck Shelby in the shoulder.

Weidel asked that anyone with information as to Washington’s whereabouts contact CrimeStoppers at (800) 743-7433.
