Bayou Cane firefighters put a quick stop to a blaze that broke out in a Broadmoor subdivision home Sunday morning,

Firefighters and Terrebonne Parish deputies responded to K Street and K Circle shortly after Noon, where the one-story home was reported “fully involved.”

The Sheriff’s Office received a call at 12:05 p.m. and deputies reached 2501 K Street at 12:07 p.m., reporting the house as “fully engulfed.” A woman and her 10-year-old daughter were just exiting the house, said Maj. Malcolm Wolfe, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman, and were aided by the responding deputy. The woman did not wish to wait for medical assistance but jumped into her vehicle and rushed to Terrebonne General Medical Center.

Firefighters, who arrived moments later, deployed ladders and an immediate attack inside the house on the fire, bringing it under control within minutes. A thick plume of black smoke visible for miles was reduced to a stream of light gray as firefighters continued extinguishing pockets of fire. Neighbors in the subdivision brought cool rags and bottles of water to the first responders, offering them cooling comfort on a humid, hot afternoon.

The 10-year-old was treated briefly at TGMC, but was later transported to the burn center in Baton Rouge. Initial indications, authorities said, were that the fire was accidental but no further information was available.
