Twenty-four local teens are vying for Terrebonne Parish’s “Teenager of the Year.”

The competition culminates in a special dinner, which begins at 6 p.m., Saturday at the American Legion Post 31 home on Legion Avenue in Houma.

Nominees for the title are selected from six parish high schools, and are chosen based on their volunteer services during the 2013 year to their respective schools, churches and community. Each high school is allowed to nominate at least four students for recognition.

The nominees also provide judges with a packet, which includes their academic record, resumes of service and achievements and letters of recommendation. The final selection is made by a committee of commanders and past commanders from the three Terrebonne Parish American Legion posts.
