The Bayou District of the Southeast Louisiana Council of the Boy Scouts of America recently held a sunrise ceremony outside the main branch of the Terrebonne Parish Library in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the worldwide scouting movement.

The Bayou District includes scouts from Terrebonne, Lafourche and Assumption parishes as well as Grand Isle.

Pictured is Bayou District Commissioner Craig Foret blowing a Kudu horn similar to the one that Lord Baden-Powell brought back from Africa following the Boer Wars and that he used to assemble the very first Scouts at Brownsea Island in England.

The 21st World Scout Jamboree was held in August in England, and drew nearly 30,000 scouts.
