The traveling nightmares experienced by Americans last month are trickling into the New Year, as 1,800 flights were canceled in the U.S early Monday. The cancellations can be attributed to a recent surge in Covid cases over the holiday season, staffing issues, and brewing winter weather sweeping across the U.S.

According to Flight Tracker, more than 15 flights were canceled at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY), and 13 delayed this morning. Cancellations come at the busiest time of the year for air travel, with over 5,300 flights canceled on New Year’s Day; leaving many travelers stranded in airports around the country. Experts said travelers can expect traveling disruptions to last through mid- February, months before the summer traveling peak.
