Tina Naquin Babin shared the following press release:

I, Tina Naquin Babin, am announcing my candidacy for re-election to the Lafourche Parish School Board in the upcoming November 8, 2022 election. Due to the upcoming board-reduction, I will be vying for the newly created District 3 seat.

In 2021, I had the honor of serving as the Board president. During my Presidency the board: Broke ground on the new Thibodaux Middle School, approved (the first of many) one-time stipends for employees ($1000 certified and $500 non-certified), named the SLHS field house in honor of Mr. Billy Rebstock, filled the temporary vacancies of District 2 (Ms. Bell) and District 5 (Mr. Bouterie), installed communication radios on all LPSD buses, and researched and developed a committee to complete the redistricting and board reduction process. During this term I was faced with the second year of the pandemic response, in addition to the Hurricane Ida response and recovery. The board and system remained focused and kept student and employee wellbeing as our top priority.

During my four-year term on the board, I have served as the Academics Committee Chair as well as the Superintendent Evaluation Committee chair and participated in Insurance, Finance, Transportation, and Advisory Committees.

I am running tor re-election to the board because Lafourche Parish needs fresh, Innovative Ideas to continue to refine the education system. I truly feel that my record on the board In the previous term was one of success and value. I believe my constituents know I am open to communication and can reel my sincerity when discussing concerns. I have voted and made decisions that represented my districts’ needs and opinions.

A product of the Lafourche parish school system, I graduated from Thibodaux High School in 1994 and continued my education at Nicholls State University. In 1998, I earned my Bachelor of Science in Marketing and later returned to become Secondary Certified to teach Social Studies and Business classes. In 2010, I returned once again to Nicholls to complete my Masters Degree in Secondary Curriculum in Social Studies – which I finished in 2017.

I am currently employed by the St. James Parish School Board as a classroom teacher – teaching U.S. History on level and U.S. History Dual Enrollment classes. I have over 22 years invested in the public school system. I have completed the State of Louisiana’s “Teacher Leader Endorsement Program”, the State of Louisiana Ethics training program annually, Hope Squad Mentor Training, and various other programs to help me be a strong, innovative educator.

Being a teacher keeps me in touch with the issues facing education today. I know the goals of education is to prepare students to be successful, productive members of our society in the post-secondary system or in the job market and I do everything with this goal in mind.

I understand the struggles of the classroom arena; the demands placed on teachers and balancing the limited resources to meet those demands. My unique background both in business and education is a benefit to serving on the Lafourche Parish School Board. I understand business concepts and practices to maintain a professional and productive board meeting. I possess the ability to manage classrooms and I know how a successful school campus operates. I understand the teacher accountability system and am keeping up with the new systems implemented.

Please stand with me to continue making positive changes for the future of our education system. We need to continue to put our teachers and employees first, and help to continue the growth and success of the Lafourche Parish School System. I am asking for your support to help me in continuing the task! Please vote to re-elect Tina Naquin Babin to the Lafourche Parish School Board – District 3 on November 8, 2022.
