Bands sought for Jazz Fest

The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival is currently accepting press kit submissions for bands wishing to perform at the 2011 event, which is set for April 29 through May 8, 2011.

Mandy Decker, festival marketing and press coordinator, said the deadline for all submissions is Oct. 1. There are two methods to submit applications: Apply online at www.nojazzfest.com/apply, or mail or drop off a press kit to the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Attn: Music Production, 336 Camp St., Suite 250, New Orleans, LA 70130.

“The mission of the festival is to preserve, promote, perpetuate, and encourage the music and culture of New Orleans and Louisiana,” Decker said. “Approximately 90 percent of the bands chosen to perform at the festival are Louisiana-based attractions.

Matthew Goldman, festival director of marketing, said press kids should include a recording, bio, photo, press clippings, contact information and a valid e-mail address.

“Please note that an e-mail address is required in order to be notified of your application status,” Goldman said.

The festival will e-mail all applicants by the end of the year once selections have been finalized.
