Bayou Community Academy in Thibodaux has announced they will break ground on a new school site in January of 2024, with hopes to open for the beginning of the 2025 school year.

The new building will be 70,000 square feet, and will host the Bayou Community Academy’s PreK-8th grade student body, alongside a gymnasium, cafeteria, science lab, art lab, band space, and more. The new school will be located at 951 North Canal Boulevard.

“We started this process a very long time ago as a charter school–since we are currently renting from Lafourche Parish School Board, we wanted to eventually build our own school,” explained Melanie Becnel, Director of Bayou Community Academy. “We are so excited for what this will do for our school and our community. Our kids deserve a new and up-to-date environment, and we are so happy to provide it for them.”

Bayou Community Academy will hold an official groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start to their new building in January of 2024, with a date to be announced soon. Stay tuned for updates as the local charter school’s dream turns into a reality!
