The Houma Police Department is warning of an unknown white male running a scam.

The subject was reported to have knocked on the door of a 93-year-old woman on the 300 block of Peach Street last week. He claimed he was there to check the alarm, explaining he worked for an alarm detection company, according to authorities.

The woman invited the man inside, where he opened the alarm box in her residence, looked through it, checked all the windows and then left, authorities said.

He was reported to be wearing a white T-shirt type of shirt, dark colored pants, black shoes and was driving a small white vehicle.

Officers contacted the alarm company after arriving to take the woman’s complaint. The company advised the officers no one had been dispatched to check the alarm system, police said.

Officers patrolled the area, but did not locate the subject or a vehicle fitting the description.

The Houma Police Department is asking residents to be observant and report any suspicious activity.
