This year’s Mad Hatter at the Bayou Junior Woman’s Club luncheon and Fashion Show’s celebrity cast has a twist for soap opera fans: Christian Jules Leblanc, better known as attorney Michael Balwin on CBS’s “The Young & the Restless.”

Set for April 29 at Nicholls State University’s Cotillion Ballroom, the event is dedicated to the memory of Mary Aucoin de la Bretonne.

Leblanc won the best lead actor daytime Emmy for his work on Y&R in 2005. He was among this year’s nominees in that category as well.

Leblanc will be accompanied by a writer from the show.

Louisiana celebrities will also mingle with and entertain guests as celebrity judges of the six hat themes.

Eric Paulsen, WWL-TV news anchor and morning show host, will judge the comedic category, European Vacation. Old South Vintage will be judged by Buddy Stall, New Orleans humorist/historian, while Baton Rouge radio talk show host Elizabeth Dent will judge the category of Romance, Italian Style. NSU first family Dr. Steve and Becky Hulbert will select the hat most representative of Persian Chic. Public radio show host Jim Engster, best known for his engaging wit on the long running Louisiana Live, will choose the winners of the group catergory with the theme Around the World in 80 Days.

Y&R celebrity dad, Major Andre Leblanc, will determine whose hat best embodies an Exotic Excursion to the Far East.

New Orleans distinguished milliner and fashion designer Yvonne Lafleur will present her one-of-a-kind hats and fashions, which range from sport to the wedding gowns. Men’s fashions will be provided by Johnny’s Men’s Shop of Thibodaux.

Doors open at 10:30 a.m. Hat registration begins at 11 a.m., and a gourmet luncheon will be served at noon.

Guests will also be able to sit for caricatures by award winning cartoonist Ricky Nobile of Mississippi. Special raffles and a silent auction will include art by Christian Leblanc as well as Thibodaux’s nationally acclaimed Susan Hoffman, memorabilia from the Young and the Restless, hand-crafted Fleur de Lis jewelry by Constance, and dinner with celebrities.
