It may come as a shock to some, but the Terrebonne Parish School Board has elected a new vice president to sit alongside Board President Clark Bonvillain.

In a 7-2 vote, District 9’s representative Hayes Badeaux was elected as the school board’s new vice president for the 2007-08 school year. Badeaux replaces former Vice President L.P. Bordelon, who had held the post for a number of years.

The two dissenting votes against Badeaux’s nomination came from Bordelon and District 8 board member Donald Duplantis.

Bonvillain was unanimously elected to his sixth term as board president. Badeaux, nominated by District 1 board member Roosevelt Thomas, took his new panel seat at Tuesday night’s meeting, the first school board meeting of the year.

Terrebonne Parish Clerk of Court Robert Boudreaux swore in the nine-member panel before the new officers were elected.

In other news, former Grand Caillou Elementary School Principal Peggy Marcel was appointed the new principal at Schriever Elementary School.

The board also agreed to renew the school system’s Flood Insurance Policy through Ledet Agency, Inc. The annual premium cost is more than $43,000, and will go into effect on Jan. 22. According to the board, there were no changes in coverage from 2006.
