Charlotte Brown, who helped cofound the Krewe of Tut, pleaded guilty to three misdemeanor charges of writing worthless checks.

Brown entered the plea before state District Judge Walter Lanier on Monday in Thibodaux. She originally pleaded not guilty to the charges in April.

Lafourche Parish Assistant District Attorney Rene Gautreaux and Brown’s attorney Anthony Marshall of Houma, came to an agreement on Monday that spares Brown serving any jail time.

Lanier ordered Brown to pay restitution costs, serve two years of supervised sheriff’s office probation, complete 80 hours of community service and pay a $500 fine.

Lanier gave Brown 30 days to pay restitution in the amount of $8,545 to Cline Tours Inc., $445 to the City of Thibodaux’s Parks and Recreation Department and $48.83 to Seafood Outlet.

He gave her 60 days to pay the $500 court fine.

Brown reportedly wrote thousands of dollars worth of worthless checks for goods and services in Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes. The checks were written from Brown’s personal account and the krewe’s checkbook.

Terrebonne authorities have yet to press charges against Brown for bounced checks.
