Thibodaux Mayor Charles Caillouet announced last week he intends to run for his fourth consecutive term as mayor of his hometown.

The election will be held Saturday, Oct. 2.

“I am honored to have had the opportunity to serve as your mayor and I wish to continue for another term,” said Caillouet in a press release. “My commitment to the citizens of Thibodaux is to continue to serve and provide sound judgment, fairness, professionalism and compassion.”

On Caillouet’s watch, Thibodaux has obtained more than $24 million in grants, more than 30 miles of asphalt street surface and overlays and upgrades to parks, drainage and traffic.

“During my time in office, countless improvements and adjustments have been made to infrastructure, departments, programs and processes to better serve the residents, and I would like the opportunity to continue our progress,” he said.

Among his plans for the future if re-elected would be to create a city-wide public bus transit system, a three-lane Tiger Drive Bridge, add turn lanes at bridges, expand the remainder of North Canal Boulevard and continue the development and expansion of Andolsek Park.

If Caillouet wins, his next four-year term will begin in December.

Qualifying for the mayor’s race is set for July 7-9. The election will be held in the fall.
