Two people were killed early Friday morning when a car veered off the road and hit a manufactured home off of La. 1, just south of the Lafourche Crossing, state police said.

Trooper First Class Rodney Hyatt said the incident occurred at 4:30 a.m.

Holly Dardar, 27, of Pointe Aux Chenes, was driving a 1995 Honda Accord south on La. 1 when she failed to negotiate a left curve in the road, Hyatt said. She overcorrected, sending the car over the centerline and toward Bayou Lafourche, he said. The car hit a tree, a utility pole a mobile home along the bayou before coming to rest, the trooper said.

Dardar and her front seat passenger, Joseph Fertitta, 23, of Thibodaux, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office, Hyatt said. State police said Dardar was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the accident, however, Fertitta was.

Hyatt said investigators don’t know if alcohol or drug use played a part in the crash, but in accordance with state law, blood tests are being conducted. No charges are pending in the crash, he said.
