April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time for families, communities, and organizations to come together and spread awareness about child abuse, and how to end it.

The annual observance was commemorated in April of 1983, by President Ronald Reagen. National Child Abuse Prevention Month provides an opportunity to promote healthy environments for children, a mission that CASA of Terrebonne prides itself in.

CASA of Terrebonne is a local non-profit organization that serves as an independent objective presence in the courts, as a voice for abused and neglected children. The organization provides support to families, friends, and neighbors in Terrebonne Parish and are seeking volunteers to join in the effort to fight against child abuse.

CASA is currently seeking volunteers to advocate for children in Terrebonne Parish, the organization currently has over 120 children on their waiting list. Those interested in volunteering must meet the following criteria:

  • Attend a personal interview with program staff
  • Consent to and pass a criminal background and child abuse registry checks
  • Complete a 30 hour training course
  • Commit to serve at least 24 months
