The City of Thibodaux received a clear financial report for 2008 and found out that the Len Court and Ridgefield Road drainage work is near completion at last week’s council meeting.

The city’s charter requires that the council conduct compliance audits on the city’s finances annually. Edward Bouterie of Bourgeois Bennett LLC, auditors for the city, presented the report to the city council last week.

In Bouterie’s words, the council received a clean audit with “no incident of any irregularities.”

The council unanimously adopted a resolution accepting the financial and compliance audit reports.

Public Works Director Kermit Kraemer told the council that the Len Court and Ridgefield Road Area Drainage Improvement Project was substantially complete. Project engineer Leonard Chauvin and representatives from the city inspected the work last week and found that it is satisfactory.

The city entered into an agreement with Sealevel Construction in December for the drainage improvements. The work was contracted through May 2009.

Also at last week’s meeting, Bonnie Lafont, grants director for the city, informed the council that a new agreement was signed with the Houma-Thibodaux Metropolitan Planning Organization. The previous agreement, signed by the council in 2000, provided for the organization to perform transportation planning in the expanded urban areas of parts of Lafourche Parish, Terrebonne Parish and the City of Thibodaux.

The updated version, which passed the council on a 5-0 vote, still has the same guidelines as the original contract, but now includes portions of Assumption Parish and the Town of Lockport, Lafont told council members.

The annual contract to provide services to the elderly community who attend programs at the Thibodaux Senior Citizens Center has come up for renewal.

The city approved its agreement with the Lafourche Council on Aging for a period of one year ending June 30, 2010.

State contest chair Jean Gilstrap said the competition was close between Houma and Alexandria. She said Houma won because the city had fewer pieces of litter by a small amount. “I’m tremendously proud of the progress you’ve made,” Gilstrap said.
