The price of a Louisiana driver’s license – whether new or a renewal – is going up.

Louisiana State Police announced on Friday that licenses will cost an additional $15 beginning March 8.

Col. Mike Edmonson, who’s also the deputy secretary of the state Department of Public Safety and Corrections, says he has reviewed the program and determined there is a need to improve the convenience, security and integrity of the system.

That includes driver’s licenses that will be safe from terrorism, identity theft and fraud.

A basic license in Louisiana currently costs $21.50, while various other licenses such as a chauffeur’s license or commercial license, costs more.

All will increase by $15 beginning next month.
