Stolen firearm found with illegal narcotics

When officers found a vehicle parked in a fire zone late Saturday night, they expected to hand out a basic traffic citation.

They ended up arresting a suspect on drug and gun charges.

At 11:45 p.m. on Feb. 8, Thibodaux Police Department officers said they saw the illegally parked vehicle in the 1300 block of Cardinal Drive. Once there, authorities started to speak with a man identified as Jasmine Antoine, 23, of 206 Capri Court, Houma.

As officers made contact with Antoine, they said they could smell burnt marijuana in the air.

Through investigation of the vehicle, TPD recovered illegal narcotics and a stolen firearm reported missing out of Terrebonne Parish.

Antoine was taken into custody and charged with possession of codeine, possession of marijuana, violation of drug free zone, illegal possession of a stolen firearm, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of a firearm free zone, illegal carrying of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, illegal carrying of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Antoine was released from the Lafourche Parish Detention Center after posting a $106,000 bond.

Shooter nabbed in Thibodaux

Thibodaux Police arrested a 23-year-old man after authorities allege that he fired shots into the home of a victim and a victim’s family in Thibodaux.

Around 7:50 p.m. on Saturday, authorities allege that Perrion Smith, 23, of 112 Ivy St., Thibodaux, fired the shots before fleeing in a vehicle.

He was then stopped by police several blocks away and taken into custody.

Smith is charged with aggravated assault with a firearm, home invasion and outstanding warrants in Terrebonne for failure to appear for trial on aggravated assault charges.

Marijuana smell nets arrest

Houma Police Officer Richard Hunter responded to the 8000 block of Main Street last week after a disturbance was reported to authorities.

The officer followed his nose to arrest a pair of suspects.

After Hunter noted a strong marijuana odor emitting from a 2002 GMC Yukon, the officer located Preston F. Allen, 26, of Livas Lane, Thibodaux and Britney M. Parfait, 26, of Hanson Drive, Houma, inside.

After running the names of the suspects, Hunter noted that Parfait had an outstanding warrant for her arrest for failure to appear on a theft charge.

Through investigation, the officer located suspected marijuana, crack cocaine, powdered cocaine, a digital scale and alprazolam inside the vehicle and also $700 cash.

Authorities said Allen also placed a cellophane baggie containing suspected cocaine in his mouth, which was never recovered as he resisted officers during his arrest. Authorities said Parfait gave authorities a false name upon being interviewed.

The narcotics were taken as evidence and authorities said Allen was taken to Terrebonne General Medical Center for medical treatment for swallowing the cellophane bag.

Both suspects were charged with possession of crack cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of powder cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a Schedule IV controlled dangerous substance (Alprazolam).

Allen is also charged with transactions involving proceeds from drug transactions, obstructing justice and resisting an officer.

Parfait is charged with giving false information, in addition to her outstanding warrant.

Car chase ends in arrest

A suspect wanted after escaping police custody in mid-January is behind bars.

On Jan. 14, authorities tout that Derrick Sneeze, 34, of 122 Spencer Lane, Houma, stole a bottle of alcohol from a business and then led officers on a high-speed chase through Houma.

After striking a utility trailer, a fence and other items in the chase, authorities said Sneeze then slammed into a utility pole, flipping his vehicle onto USDA Road. After hitting the pole, authorities said Sneeze then fled on foot and was eventually arrested on the rooftop of a residence on the 300 block of Hawthorne Drive.

Because of the crash, authorities took Sneeze to a hospital to be treated for his injuries. While at the medical facility, authorities said the suspect escaped medical personnel and authorities.

This week, authorities said they located a vehicle with Sneeze behind the wheel. Before officers could attempt to initiate a traffic stop, Sneeze fled the scene and again and initiated a high-speed chase, authorities said.

During the chase, Sneeze rammed his vehicle into a telephone pole and a parked car, according to authorities. He then fled on foot and led officers on a chase through a wooded area, where he was eventually located laying in a drainage ditch and taken into custody.

Sneeze is charged with theft, aggravated flight from an officer, resisting arrest by flight, resisting arrest by giving false information, criminal damage to property, simple escape and various traffic offenses.

Two suffer knife wounds in Thibodaux

A Thibodaux man is in custody of Lafourche authorities after stabbing two victims in a bar fight.

At 12:10 a.m., last Sunday, deputies and medical personnel were called to the Armadillo Club in Thibodaux in reference to a fight with multiple injuries.

Once on the scene, deputies made contact with James David, 38, of Thibodaux, who was wielding a knife and a pool cue. Despite commands from deputies, David refused to drop the knife and pool cue, which prompted deputies to utilize a Taser on James in order to take him into custody.

After investigation, authorities learned that David had allegedly started a fight with several individuals in the bar before allegedly physically attacking them. Authorities said a female bystander tried to break up the fight and fell to the ground with David, during which the suspect then allegedly struck the woman near her feet, cutting her with a knife near the ankle.

Authorities said another bystander pulled David away from the others and started to move him to the door. As this occurred, authorities said David stabbed the man multiple times.

Both victims suffered wounds that are not considered life-threatening.

David was taken to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center. He’s being charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a dangerous weapon.
