Houma man arrested for theft over $500

The Houma Police Department announced this week that it has arrested a 40-year-old Houma man on several drug-related crimes and thefts.

On Sept. 27 at approximately 10:43 a.m., authorities say they responded to the 2200 block of Percy Street in reference to the theft of a maroon sun cruiser bike, weed eater and chain saw.

During the time they were called to that location, officers also learned of a theft on the 1800 block of Prospect Avenue where a barbecue pit and propane bottle were stolen, as well as a theft at the Dollar Tree on Grand Caillou Road where a male was observed carrying a yellow grocery bag of items out of the store without paying for them.

Witnesses at the Dollar Tree incident say they saw the suspect leave the scene on a bike.

Officers on patrol located the suspect on East Street near Grand Caillou Road.

Police say they brought the man back to the Dollar Tree, where he was positively identified by the store’s manager.

From there, authorities identified the man as Elroy N. Williams, Sr., 42, of Houma.

Police say they located a suspected glass crack pipe in Williams’ pants pocket. Upon a search of his name, HPD also learned he has outstanding warrants for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Williams was linked to all of the above-mentioned thefts.

He is charged with felony possession of drug paraphernalia, theft of goods, theft over $500 and his outstanding warrant.

He remains in jail in lieu of a bond hearing.

Authorities say once the contact took place, the suspect in the other vehicle, Timothy Angelette, 50, of 637 La. Highway 308, Thibodaux, walked into the business like nothing ever happened.

When confronted by police, authorities say Angelette denied ramming into the vehicle, but Silverii said detectives were able to prove otherwise.
