Reward offered for attempted murder suspect

Lafourche authorities are seeking the public’s help in locating Donovan Queen, 19, who is wanted for attempted second-degree murder, second-degree battery, aggravated burglary and aggravated simple criminal damage to property.

Lafourche sheriff’s spokesman Brennan Matherne said in a release that Queen is wanted in connection with an shooting incident in Thibodaux that occurred last week. Queen had reportedly been arguing with a woman when he physically attacked her and, in the process, shot her in the foot, Matherne said.

The woman was treated at a nearby hospital and released, he said.

Detectives later learned Queen and the woman had been arguing at a residence when he allegedly grabbed her by the neck and punched her twice in the face, Matherne said. Another man at the house forced Queen out of the dwelling and ordered him not to return. When the woman appeared in the doorway, Queen reportedly pulled the gun and fired, striking her in the right foot. Two bullets entered the house, Matherne said.

Authorities said Queen went back inside the house, tracked down the woman and pointed the weapon at her, pulling the trigger. Matherne said the gun misfired, after which Queen ran away.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Bayou Region Crime Stoppers at 1-800-743-7433 or text “GIVEATIP” plus your message to 274637. Tipsters can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward up to $1,000 if the information leads to an arrest.

Houma man charged with pulling gun at parade

Kerson S. Garner, 21, of Prince Collins Street, Houma, was arrested Friday during the Krewe of Aphrodite parade after Houma Police found a handgun in his possession, authorities said.

HPD Chief Todd Duplantis said in a release that police were notified after gunshots were fired near the rear of the First Class Apartments in Houma. As officers approached the entrance to the complex’s parking lot, they spotted Garner, who was wearing a black hoodie and jeans, fitting the description of the alleged shooter.

Duplantis said police reported Garner had his hand in the hoodie and refused to remove it. When he did finally comply with orders to withdraw his hand from his sweater, he allegedly tossed a black .380-caliber semi-automatic pistol into the nearby crowd.

The weapon was recovered a few feet away from Garner, the police chief said.

Police loaded Garner in a City Marshal transport van. Duplantis said once Garner was inside the van, he became irate and kicked the side window of the van out, shattering it.

He was transferred to a Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office van and taken to the parish jail.

Garner, who was convicted of distribution of marijuana in 2011, is on parole for that charge through 2015. He was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of firearm during a parade and criminal damage to property.

Raceland man sentenced

Jeremy Jones, 28, of 433 Triple Oaks St., was sentenced to 25 years in prison in exchange for pleading guilty to distributing cocaine, Lafourche Parish District Attorney Cam Morvant reported.

The drug charge stemmed from an incident on Feb. 12. Morvant said Jones also pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary in connection with a separate incident that occurred on June 1, 2012. District Judge John E. LeBlanc sentenced the Raceland man to 15 years, set to run concurrently, for that offense.

Assistant District Attorney Annette Fontana handled the case.
