Cut Off man arrested on drug and gun charges

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office announced that a 28-year-old Cut Off man was arrested after officers located methadone inside his vehicle.

Around 1:30 p.m. last Thursday, deputies say they were on patrol in the 100 block of St. Louis Street in Raceland when they observed a black car fail to stop at a stop sign.

The deputy conducted a traffic stop of the car and identified the driver as Cody Williams, 28, of 15303 East Main Street, Cut Off.

Upon being stopped, LPSO spokesman deputy Brennan Matherne said Williams told officers he had a handgun inside the vehicle, which was secured.

The suspect also gave consent to deputies to search the car, during which Matherne said authorities located nine pills of suspected methadone inside a backpack.

Williams was placed under arrest and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center where he was booked on charges of possession of methadone (Schedule II), illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance and failure to stop at a stop sign.

Golden Meadow man arrested with 64 grams of marijuana

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre said a Golden Meadow man is in custody after authorities located more than 60 grams of marijuana and $166 in his possession.

Shortly after 6 p.m. last Thursday, Lafourche Parish Drug Task Force and Louisiana Probation and Parole officers were patrolling the La. Highway 308 area in Golden Meadow when they spotted a white car with open doors parked in the middle of the highway on the bridge crossing the Yankee Canal.

Agents made contact with the vehicle’s driver, identifying him as Dustin Cheramie, 23, of 156 E. 172nd St., Golden Meadow.

Officers identified that Cheramie was on probation and conducted a pat down of the suspect, during which officers located a plastic bag of suspected marijuana in his pocket.

After finding the marijuana, LPSO spokesman deputy Brennan Matherne said Cheramie informed officers that there was more marijuana inside his vehicle. After a brief search, officers say they located about 64.3 gross grams of marijuana and $166 cash inside Cheramie’s vehicle.

Cheramie was arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana. He was taken to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center and was held in lieu of a $25,000 bond.

Probation and Parole has placed a hold on Cheramie.

Suspect wanted in shooting

The Thibodaux Police Department is looking for a man they believe is a person of interest in a shooting that took place at Rak-N-Dak over the weekend.

Authorities are searching for Cornell McIntyre – someone authorities believe has information about the weekend shooting, which left two people injured with non-life threatening wounds.

If anyone knows McIntyre’s whereabouts, they are asked to contact the TPD’s detectives bureau at 985-446-7295.

Thibodaux man arrested after scam foiled

The Thibodaux Police Department says it has arrested a 36-year-old man that it believes tried to con money from victims in an apartment scam.

Authorities say Melvin Clark, of 626 N. Sixth St., Thibodaux, is charged with attempted felony theft over $500 and a warrant for failure to appear for his role in the alleged scheme.

TPD spokesman Det. David Melancon said the plot was uncovered on Oct. 1 when a victim went apartment shopping with a friend.

During the search, police say the duo was approached by Clark, who said he knew of an apartment for rent, giving them a phone number before leaving.

Over a series of calls, the victim said Clark told them that someone was interested in the apartment, but if $550 was provided, the apartment would be frozen for the victim.

The suspicion arose because Clark asked the victim to bring the money to Chase Bank, before adding that the apartment was not able to be viewed.

Suspicious of that request, the victim drove to the address provided and discovered that the apartment wasn’t vacant.

Upon contact with authorities, police listened to a call between the victim and Clark during which, he asked the victim to bring the money to W. 10th Street in Thibodaux.

Police arrived at that location and placed the suspect under arrest.

Terrebonne and Lafourche partner to arrest “very dangerous” suspect

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office announced this week that it has arrested a 33-year-old Chauvin man described as a “very dangerous, wanted suspect.”

Last Monday, TPSO detectives received a Crime Stoppers tip in reference to Gilbert Moses Jr., 33, of Chauvin.

Authorities say the tip stated that he was spotted in the Lafourche side of the Point-Aux-Chenes area on La. Highway 665.

Authorities from both the TPSO and LPSO collaborated and captured Moses at 1617 La. Highway 665 in Montegut as he was leaving the residence of an associate.

Moses was taken into custody without incident.

He was transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center, where he was booked as a fugitive from Terrebonne Parish for a parole violation.

On Oct. 2, Moses was moved from Lafourche’s jail to Terrebonne’s where he was booked for armed robbery.

He remains in prison in lieu of a $500,000 bond.

Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said he wanted to thank the public for its help in bringing Moses to justice.

Thibodaux man nabbed for 5th DWI

A 35-year-old Thibodaux man was caught driving while intoxicated for the fifth time in the last 10 years, the Thibodaux Police Department announced.

Johnathan Smith was pulled over while driving his 2008 Pontiac with one headlight burned out shortly before midnight on Thursday. He allegedly admitted to drinking for six hours before his encounter with police, and allegedly failed a field sobriety test.

Smith refused to blow into the Intoxilyzer machine, so a warrant was secured for a sample of his blood, according to TPD spokesman David Melancon.

Smith was transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center.

LPSO nabs suspected car thieves

Four men suspected of stealing a car at gunpoint in New Orleans were arrested in Raceland Saturday, Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced.

Deputies pulled over the allegedly stolen vehicle, a 2011 Chevrolet Camero, shortly after 11 p.m. near U.S. Highway 90 and La. Highway 182 in Raceland after fielding a call from the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office detailing the location, LPSO spokesman Brennan Matherne said.

NOPD also reports that Jones has been arrested 10 times on charges including attempted armed robbery, illegal carrying of weapons and various drug charges.

Webb has four prior arrests, Matherne said.
