Video game ends in arrests

A friendly video game amongst friends turned violent in Houma this week, landing two in jail following a brawl.

Saturday morning at approximately 7:15 a.m., Houma Police Department officers responded to the 500 block of Wilson Avenue in reference to a disturbance.

Once on the scene, officers learned that two male subjects, who were reportedly best friends, were involved in a physical altercation.

During the investigation, authorities learned that Patrick Cloud, 19, of 7684 Main St., No. 309, Houma, punched and kicked his best friend in the face, causing him to sustain a laceration to his forehead.

The victim of that attack, William Lirette, 21, of 518 Wilson Avenue, allegedly responded to that by retrieving a weapon from his residence and pointing it at Cloud before firing it into the ground.

Authorities were able to locate both suspects and place them under arrest.

Cloud is charged with one count of second-degree battery. Lirette is charged with one count of illegal use of a weapon and one count of aggravated assault with a firearm.

Man arrested for bomb threats

A 45-year-old Thibodaux man was arrested Tuesday evening after he allegedly threatened the city’s schools, police department and courthouses in telephone conversations with police, prompting leaders to take emergency measures and lock down schools.

Donald Brooks, of 954-A St. Charles St., was linked to a pre-paid Samsung phone used to make the calls and is charged with terrorizing and communicating false information of planned office, Thibodaux Police Department spokesman David Melancon said.

The phone was a vital piece of evidence leading to the arrest, Melancon said, but police also secured witness statements. The spokesman could not say whether or not Brooks confessed to the crime, nor could he discuss Brooks’ motivation behind the alleged call.

“We were able to link him to the calls,” Melancon said. “The phone is a very key piece of evidence.”

Brooks was scheduled to appear in court that day on matters related to child support, Melancon said.

The suspect is being held at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in lieu of a $500,000 bond.

“I believe people are able to get back into the norm of things, and I believe a lot of parents’ minds are set at ease knowing that the man is off the street and they can send their kids back to school,” Melancon said.

Schools reopened on Wednesday, and the courthouses, evacuated for hours, opened on Tuesday. People who missed their court appearance are asked to report before a judge as soon as possible.

Reward offered for shooting suspect

Thibodaux Police Chief Scott Silverii said that a reward is being offered for anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of a suspect wanted for two counts of attempted second-degree murder.

Cornell McIntyre, 20, of 1292 St. Charles St., is wanted in connection to a shooting that took place early Saturday morning around 1 a.m. at the Rak-N-Dak.

Two people sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the incident.

Anyone with information about McIntyre’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Bayou Region Crime Stoppers at 1-800-743-7433.

Matherne said the stabbing occurred after Gerardo Sanchez, 30, of 640 St. Louis St., Apartment 2, and another man got into an argument.

During the argument, Matherne said it was learned that Sanchez allegedly stabbed the other man in the stomach with an unknown weapon.

The victim found a ride to the local hospital after reporting trouble breathing. He was treated for a collapsed lung on his left side.

After making contact with the victim, Matherne said deputies searched for Sanchez, locating him sleeping inside his truck at his apartment complex parking lot.

Sanchez is charged with aggravated second-degree battery.

Police recover stolen vehicle

Thibodaux Police Chief Scott Silverii announced that a 19-year-old Lafayette native is in the Lafourche Parish Jail after he allegedly stole a vehicle in Thibodaux.

Authorities said on Oct. 5 at around 3 p.m., they received a complaint about a blue 2009 Ford Fusion that was parked in a designated parking area on the 2100 block of Audubon Avenue.

Once on the scene, police determined that the vehicle was reported stolen out of Lafayette.

Through witnesses, police were able to come in contact with the driver, Dillion Damond, 19, of 219 Diamond Drive, Lafayette.

When authorities tried to speak with the man, they say he proclaimed “…just take me to jail, because I don’t even care.”

Damond is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, according to Thibodaux Police authorities.
