17-year-old wanted for murder

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office has issued an arrest warrant in the death of Elizabeth Davis, who was shot after a drug deal went awry, Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said.

Detectives are seeking to execute the warrant on 17-year-old Desmond Verdin, of Village East, for one count of first-degree murder, one count of attempted first-degree murder and one count of attempted robbery with a firearm.

Verdin is a thin man between 5-foot, 8-inches and 5-foot, 10-inches tall, Larpenter said.

He is wanted in connection with the death of 25-year-old Elizabeth Davis.

Deputies responded at about 7:30 p.m., Dec. 18, to the parking lot of Marty J’s convenience store on La. Highway 56 in reference to a complaint. They discovered Davis dead in the passenger seat of a vehicle in the lot with a single gunshot wound to her upper torso.

Davis’ boyfriend, determined to be the driver, was found with a gunshot wound to his hand and was treated at a local hospital, Larpenter said.

Investigation yielded that Davis and her boyfriend attempted to purchase illegal narcotics in the Smithridge area, when the dealer attempted to rob them, Larpenter said. The suspect allegedly fired multiple times as Davis fled the Smithridge area.

Terrebonne Parish deputies recovered more than $20,000 in drugs from a Houma residence after investigating whether a woman was being held against her will, Sheriff Jerry Larpenter announced.

Uncovered at 439 Ashland Drive in Houma were 50.6 grams of crystal meth (street value: $10,120); 3.9 grams of heroin ($780); 96 ounces of codeine ($9,600); 2.15 grams of cocaine ($430) and half a gram of crack cocaine ($100), Larpenter said. An SKS rife and $1,025 in cash were also reportedly located inside the residence

Dantrell Berdell Matthews, 29, of 439 Ashland Drive, Dulac; Rebecca Francis, 30, of 4426 Shrimper’s Row, Dulac; and Byron Gerard Brown, 31, of 203 John Edwards Lane, Thibodaux, were arrested.

All three charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession of intent to distribute cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal proceeds and possession of a weapon with illegal drugs. Brown was additionally arrested on warrants for child support delinquency and contempt of court.

Matthews’ bond was set at $175,000, Francis’ bond was set at $100,000 and bond was not set for Brown, Larpenter said.

Deputies arrived to the scene after receiving a complaint that a woman was being held against her will, Larpenter said. She was found inside the residence unharmed.

Narcotics officers were called in to assist, and a search warrant was obtained, according to the sheriff.

Thibodaux man booked on 29 theft-related charges

A Thibodaux man has been charged in connection with 25 burglaries and thefts spanning 30 days after he was found in a car stuck in the cane field near the Midway Subdivision, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office announced.

Keith Williams, born on Christmas Day 22 years ago, of 105 Anthony Drive, admitted to burglarizing 21 vehicles and two other thefts in Midway and the Bayou Country Club Subdivision on Friday, Dec. 20, and Wednesday, Dec. 11, LPSO Deputy Brennan Matherne said. Williams also admitted to vehicle burglaries in Highland Lakes and Waverly Oaks in November, as well as a theft in Waverly Oaks, the spokesman said.

Williams was charged with 22 counts of simple burglary of a vehicle, three counts of theft and four counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is being held at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in lieu of $45,000 bond as well as a hold issued by Louisiana Probation and Parole.

On Dec. 20, detectives responded to Midway Street after receiving reports that several vehicles had been burglarized. The Thibodaux Police Department also provided assistance.

Once on scene, investigators learned that a male subject, later identified as Williams, had sought assistance from people in multiple Emerald Park Drive homes at around 3:30 a.m. Williams told the residents his vehicle was stuck in a cane field, Matherne said.

Deputies located the car in the cane field, and Williams admitted to getting it stuck and driving without the use of his headlights, which he could not rationally explain, Matherne said. Additionally, Williams could not explain how he came to possess an MP3 player later determined as stolen, the spokesman said.

Among the other items Williams is accused of stealing are three semi-automatic handguns, a shotgun, several personal electronic devices and cash.

Thibodaux police were called to the parking lot after Tabor “was seen wearing nothing more than his epidermis while yelling at a toddler,” wrote department spokesman David Melancon.
