Morgan City duo arrested with drugs

Morgan City Police took notice of the vehicle driven by Brandon Granger, 24, of Morgan City, when his car drove off the road several times Saturday night.

Granger was also traveling with his headlights turned off, authorities said.

When police stopped Granger, he could not produce a driver’s license. Officers learned his license had, in fact, been suspended.

Inside the center console of Granger’s vehicle, police found suspected marijuana.

He was charged with driving without headlights, driving under suspension, improper lane usage, possession of marijuana (second offense) and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Granger’s passenger, Timothy Mays, 23, also of Morgan City, was also arrested. Mays was charged with possession of marijuana (second offense), possession of drug paraphernalia and an open container violation.

Granger’s bond was set at $7,750, while Mays is being held in lieu of a $6,750 bond.

Justin Bourgeois, of Morgan City, got a rude awakening early Monday.

The 34-year-old was sleeping inside his vehicle outside Cannatas Food World when Morgan City Police passed by. When the officer awakened Bourgeois, they noticed that he spoke with a slurred speech and nearly fell down, authorities said.

Bourgeois consented to a search, and officers found four tablets of suspected Lortab and seven suspected Xanax tablets in his possession. He also had a crack pipe, authorities said.

Bourgeois was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of Schedule III CDS (Lortab) and possession of Schedule IV CDS (Xanax).

Ill-advised late-night dip ends with arrests

A late night dip in an East Houma public pool has landed four teens in front of a judge.

Houma Police responded to the pool at 126 Boundary Road around 10 p.m. last Wednesday when someone saw the teens using the pool after hours.

When officers arrived, the four teens ran from the pool and climbed the fence over to the property of TARC School in an attempt to avoid arrest, police said.

A brief search of the area ended with the arrest of Desmond and Jesmond Mathews, both 17, both of 235 Cherbourg St., a 15-year-old male and a 15-year-old female. Authorities said the two 17-year-olds were issued summons for two counts of trespassing, and the juveniles were charged with two counts of trespassing and curfew violation.

Slur etched into police unit lands Houma man in jail

A Houma man was arrested for scratching the word “pig” on a Houma Police unit early Wednesday, a department spokesman said.

Jacob J. Slaaen, 29, of 306 Duet St., was charged with criminal damage to property, resisting an officer, operating a vehicle without two headlamps and reckless operation of a vehicle.

Houma Police were dispatched to assist an officer with crowd control outside a local bar in the 7000 block of Main Street around 2:10 a.m., said Lt. Todd Duplantis, spokesman for the Houma Police Department.

As the police unit arrived on the scene, Slaaen walked up to the back of the unit and, using a key, scratched into the police car, Duplantis said. When police went to arrest Slaaen, the Houma man raised his hands, backed away and then took off running behind the business.

Slaaen jumped into a Cadillac Deville and sped off, peeling out of the parking lot, police said. Officers arrested Slaaen a brief time later behind a business in the 500 block of Barrow Street.

Bat wielding robbery leads to arrest

A Houma man is facing armed robbery charges after admitting last Wednesday to Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s detectives that he entered a convenience store with a baseball bat and demanded money from the cash register.

Charles Solomon Jr., 23, 110 Crozier Drive, was charged with armed robbery, possession with the intent to distribute CDS II and possession with intent to distribute CDS III, authorities said.

Deputies responded to the robbery at a store in the 300 block of Bayou Dularge Road around 2:55 p.m.

The clerk said after the robber demanded the cash, she gave it to him and he fled without incident, deputies said.

Deputies patrolled the area for over an hour but did not find the robber.

Acting on a tip that a Solomon had called a local cab company and requested to be picked up on Williams Street in Dularge, deputies moved in. They stopped the cab on La. 315 near the Dularge Overpass. Solomon was found lying on the backseat, where he was apprehended.

Detectives found cash and illegal narcotics in Solomon’s pockets, authorities said.

He later admitted to committing the armed robbery, saying that he needed the money to pay his gas bill, detectives said.

Bond for the initial charges was set at $200,000. In addition, he was charged on Thibodaux Police Department warrants for distributing crack cocaine on school property and illegal use of CDS in the presence of a person under age 17, which carries a bond of $55,000. Solomon is being held at the Terrebonne Parish Jail in lieu of $255,000 bond.

Outburst on Aisle 6 leads to Houma man’s arrest

A 48-year-old man was arrested after causing a disturbance at Walgreen’s in Tunnel Boulevard in Houma last Tuesday afternoon, Houma Police said.

Dean M. Breaux, 48, of 109 Laura Lane, Houma, had to be physically wrestled to the floor before officers were able to escort him from the store. Outside, he continued to resist arrest, even kicking the window of the police unit once inside, police said.

Throughout the ordeal, Breaux was using loud and abusive language.

Witnesses told police that Breaux entered the store and began throwing things and ripping items off of the shelves. When the manager asked the Houma man to leave to the store, he continued causing a disturbance and refused to go, police said. Then Breaux chased the manager through the store until police arrived.

Merchandise was strewn on the floor on several aisles, police said. The cosmetic aisle had bins of makeup everywhere on the floor. The greeting card aisle had cards and envelopes thrown all over, police said.

“There was not one aisle Mr. Breaux did not go down that he did not throw merchandise on the floor,” said Lt. Todd Duplantis, spokesman for the Houma Police.

Breaux was charged with criminal damage over $500, two counts of simple assault, resisting by violence and disturbing the peace by using loud and abusive language.

Des Allemands man faces multiple domestic abuse charges

A 24-year-old Des Allemands in behind bars facing multiple domestic abuse charges after he allegedly beat his ex-girlfriend and threatened to kidnap her three-year-old daughter, authorities said.

Robert Douglas Malcolm, of 143 Breaux Lane, was arrested last Monday and charged with aggravated burglary, unauthorized use of a movable, domestic abuse-child endangerment, domestic abuse-involving a pregnant person and simple kidnapping.

He is being held at the St. Charles Parish jail in lieu of a $38,000 bond.

The charges against Malcolm stem from an incident on May 10 on the Lafourche Parish side of Des Allemands, according to Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Larry Weidel. Malcolm and his girlfriend of three years had broken up three weeks earlier and she relocated from the couple’s home on the east side of Des Allemands to a trailer on the west side of the town.

Malcolm allegedly broke into the woman’s trailer and threatened to take her child, who is no relation to Malcolm, Weidel said. Once inside the trailer, Malcolm threw a lamp and chair into the nearby bayou. He also reportedly grabbed some pictures and his ex-girlfriend’s daughter and ran to the woman’s truck and put her child inside the vehicle.

The woman threatened to call police if Malcolm did not return the child, Weidel said.

Malcolm exited the truck, gabbed the woman by the neck and began choking her, the spokesman said. The woman told deputies Malcolm threw her to the ground and began hitting her in the stomach, knowing she was pregnant. Weidel said Malcolm agreed to return the child if the woman agreed not to call authorities.

When the woman contact the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, the case was turned over to Domestic Abuse Specialist Deputy Shirley Collins, Weidel said. Warrants were obtained for Malcolm’s arrest.

Weidel said Malcolm’s criminal history includes several arrests for battery and possession of marijuana.

Lockport teen arrested for aggravated rape

A 17-year-old Lockport teen was arrested last Friday after reportedly having sex with a 12-year-old girl, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office reported.

Spokesman Larry Weidel said deputies charged Rene John Hebert, of 121 Vacherie St., with aggravated rape.

Hebert was taken into custody in Terrebonne Parish, and reportedly admitted to officers that he had sex with the girl. However, he said he thought the girl was 16 years of age, authorities said.

State District Judge Buddy Larose set bond at $50,000 and issued a stay-away order. Hebert is being held at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux in lieu of bond.

A maximum penalty of life in prison or even the death penalty can be sought, for the crime of aggravated rape, particularly if the victim is under the age of 13, Weidel said.

Vending machine thief arrested in Raceland

Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man last Sunday suspected of breaking into a number of coin-operated vending machines in the Raceland community, department spokesman Larry Weidel said.

Marcus D. Thomas, 26, of 262 Williams St., Raceland, was charged with two counts of criminal damage to a coin-operated device, theft of goods and criminal trespassing.

Sgt. Kirk Rodrigue stopped Thomas near Raceland Middle School. When Thomas spotted the deputy, he turned, began walking fast and throwing bottles he had been holding in all directions, Weidel explained. Thomas had a cold bottle of Three Musketeers Chocolate in his front pocket, six Slimmer Milks, and a bottle of Dasani water, which he threw in the ditch.

Rodrigue discovered someone had broken into a Dasani vending machine at the school, Weidel said. The machine contained the same products Thomas had in his possession.

Also, a car jack, a four-way lug wrench and a tire tool were found next to the machine, he said.

After Thomas was arrested, Rodrigue learned someone had also broken into a vending machine in front of the Raceland Dollar General on La. 1. The imprint on the machine indicated similar tools as those recovered at the school were used.

Marcus was charged with another count of criminal damage to a coin-operated device after deputies later learned that the soft drink machine in front of Rouses’ in Raceland had also been robbed. Authorities recovered a pair of vice grips, a scissor jack, a flat-tip screwdriver and a small pry bar on the ground by the machine.

State District Judge John LeBlanc set Thomas’ bond at $5,000.

The maximum sentence for criminal damage to a coin-operated device is a fine of $2,000 and two years in prison on each count, Weidel said.
