Murder suspect surrenders

With the surrender of a Thibodaux man last week, two men are in custody and charged with second-degree murder in the September 2013 slaying of 21-year-old Carnell McIntyre.

Michael Coleman, 22, turned himself in at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on Tuesday. Previously, Junius Thompson III, 23, of Napoleonville, surrendered to the New Orleans Police Department on Jan. 7 after learning of the warrant against him, Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman Brennan Matherne said.

McIntyre, of 1292 St. Charles St., Thibodaux, was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds to his head alongside Ridgefield Road at 8:30 a.m., Sept. 8. At the time, detectives said they believed McIntyre’s body was dumped at the site.

Thompson is being held at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in lieu of a $500,000 bond.

Coleman, who was additionally charged with simple battery, home invasion and contempt of court, is being held at LPDC in lieu of a $603,000 bond.

Coleman, of 2602 Ridgefield Road, Thibodaux, allegedly punched a victim on Sept. 19 following a verbal altercation, drawing the simple burglary charge, Matherne said. He is charged with home invasion stemming from a Nov. 3 incident where he allegedly entered a Ridgeway Street residence and began threatening people inside the home.

Warrants for their arrest were issued in December, Matherne said.

LPSO’s investigation is ongoing, so deputies are not releasing additional information at this time, the spokesman said.

9 charged with DWIs

in busy weekend

A total of nine people were given DWI charges this weekend after a Saturday night checkpoint in the southern portions of Lafourche Parish.

Sheriff Craig Webre said 50 citations were given to offenders in the sweep, which took place on Saturday night.

The DWIs started on Saturday afternoon during a seat belt enforcement operation in Lafourche Parish.

During that checkpoint, 31 drivers were given seat belt violations and six others were handed driver’s license violations.

At the time, seat belt violator Tim Rodrigue, 41, of 400 East 40th Street, Golden Meadow, was charged with second-offense DWI, possession with intent to distribute morphine and possession with intent to distribute hydrocodone.

During the roundup, five suspects were taken into custody for DWI. They are listed below:

• Rhea Marullo, 40, of 110 Grand Isle Parkway, Grand Isle

• Terry Guidry, 47, of 309 West 11th Street, Larose

• Lydia Guidroz, 47, of 17329 West Main Street, Galliano

• Dagoberto Gutierrez, 38, of Loc Pozo de Jarillos, Ojocalient

• Ashlie Cantrelle, 23, of 104 East Avenue A, Larose

Authorities said three other people were given DWIs during routine patrol in the parish on Saturday night.

“We hope these efforts send a clear message to the public as we enter carnival season that we have zero tolerance for impaired driving,” Webre said. “Anytime a suspected impaired driver refused to submit to a breathalyzer test, deputies will seek a search warrant to have the driver’s blood tested.”

Webre said that while the DWI numbers were high, he was pleased with one outcome of the checkpoint.

“Deputies encountered more than 10 times the amount of responsible citizens obeying traffic and DWI laws,” Webre said. “In fact, several people mentioned they had a designated driver for the evening.”

911 Safety Profile offered online

The Thibodaux Police Department is allowing citizens to create a safety profile, which will allow operators to see your information when you make an emergency call.

TPD Chief Scott Silverii announced this week that the city has adopted Smart911, which allows citizens to make a free profile online. With a profile, 911 operators will have your information when you make a call to the emergency number.

Silverii said he encourages Thibodaux citizens to register their profiles to make things easier in the event of emergency.

The police chief touted that anything that speeds up the process by a few seconds in a time of crisis could be critical in resolving the problem.

To sign up, those interested may go to www.smart911.com.

Car chase ends in arrest

A high-speed chase ended in the arrest of a Houma man on multiple traffic violations.

Last Thursday at approximately 11:32 a.m., Houma Police Department Sgt. Jeffery Lirette said he was patrolling near Grand Caillou Road and Buron Street when he observed a 2007 Mitsubishi Galant fail to use a turn signal.

Authorities said Lirette tried to conduct a traffic stop on the car, but the vehicle sped away when the officer put on his emergency lights and siren.

Authorities said the Galant disobeyed stop signs and collided into a fence and house on Brittany Street during the chase before coming to a complete stop.

The driver then exited the vehicle and fled on foot before being apprehended by police.

Authorities identified the man as Byron A. Gauche, 45, of Colyell Drive, Houma, and discovered that he had a suspended driver’s license.

He is charged with failure to use a turn signal, aggravated flight from an officer, hit and run driving and operating a vehicle with a suspended license.

Suspect looking for

camp burglars

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office is looking for the suspect responsible for three camp burglaries that were reported to authorities on Friday morning.

Terrebonne Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said that deputies are investigating the burglaries, which occurred on Four Point Road in Dulac. In each case, authorities said flat screen televisions were taken from the camps.

Authorities believe the incidents occurred between Feb. 8 and Feb. 14.

Larpenter said his office is also looking into 17 vehicle burglaries that were phoned into his office on Saturday morning – all in the Gibson area.

Larpenter said the burglaries occurred between the late Friday night and early Saturday morning hours, and radar detectors and loose change and iPhone chargers were among the most common stolen items.

Larpenter asks anyone with knowledge of the burglaries to call the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office at (985) 876-2500.

Arrest made in convenience store theft

A 50-year-old Raceland woman has allegedly confessed to taking more than $10,000 from a Lafourche Parish convenience store.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre said this week that Darlene Jackson, of 1659 St. Patrick St., Raceland, admitted to taking the money after being caught by store management for a second time.

Around noon last Thursday, deputies were called to the business, which is located on La. Highway 1 in Raceland in reference to the money being missing from an account.

Through investigation, deputies learned that Jackson was responsible for making multiple deposits from Jan. 5 – Feb. 8.

Authorities also learned that Jackson had been caught stealing money from the store once before, but management allowed her to pay back the amount allegedly taken.

During questioning, Jackson admitted to the theft, authorities said.

Jackson is charged with felony theft.

She was released after posting a $5,000 bond.

Couple found with counterfeit printing material

Two suspects are in custody of the Thibodaux Police Department after they were caught trying to use alleged counterfeit money.

TPD Chief Scott Silverii said this week that Joshua Ray Hyatt, 23, of 29360 Red Oak Road, Livingston and Michelle Bourgeois, 19, of 136 Goode St., Thibodaux were arrested after Bourgeois allegedly tried to use a counterfeit bill.

Authorities learned that Hyatt was staying at a motel on the 1200 Block of Canal Boulevard with Bourgeois, who is his girlfriend.

Both suspects were taken into custody and it was learned that Hyatt had printed the counterfeit currency. Police also said they recovered printing materials, a firearm and marijuana from the scene.

Hyatt is charged with monetary instrument abuse, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, resisting an officer and possession of marijuana. Bourgeois is charged with possession of marijuana.
