A 57-year-old Cut Off man was struck and killed last Wednesday when he ran into the path of a Ford F150 on Louisiana Highway 1 in Galliano, state police reported.

Perry L. Walker Sr. was rushed to Lady of the Sea Hospital, where he subsequently died from injuries sustained in the crash, said Trooper First Class Gilbert Dardar Jr., spokesman for Louisiana State Police Troop C.

Dardar said Walker reportedly ran from the shoulder into the north lane of La. 1 where he was hit by a truck driven by Christopher Cheramie, 35, of Galliano. The incident occurred around 9:25 a.m.

During the initial investigation, Mary Borne, 21, of Galliano, told authorities she was driving the truck. Troopers later learned she was a passenger in the truck, Dardar said.

Cheramie eventually admitted he was driving at the time of the crash. He was charged with obstruction of justice, driving without a license on his person and failing to register his vehicle. Borne and a second passenger, Patricia Hebert, 38, also of Galliano, were charged with interfering with the duties of a state trooper.

Although alcohol use is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash, Dardar said Cheramie was given a breath test. The result was .000g percent, indicating that he was not impaired. Toxicology results from Walker are pending from the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office, Dardar said.
