Tri-parish area Democrats will head to the polls Saturday to choose delegates to represent them at the party’s fall convention in Colorado this August.

Only three polling sites will be open locally, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.:

• The real estate office of S.P. LaRussa at 120 Progressive Blvd. in Houma

• Block Law Firm, 422 East First St., Thibodaux

• Wyandotte Elementary School, at the corner of 2 Glenwood Ave. and Roderick Street in Morgan City.

Assumption Parish voters can also vote at any of these sites.

The process of qualifying to become a delegate is open to any Louisiana Democrat. Qualifying is based on the congressional district in which a person lives. Thus, Tri-parish area voters must live within U.S. Rep. Charlie Melancon’s district.

At the Democratic National Convention, delegates will vote for Sen. Hillary Clinton or Sen. Barak Obama.

Clinton voters will choose Saturday from two lists. Among the female candidates (list one) are Marsha Adragna, Audrey Babineaux George or Virginia McCarter, all of Houma, Carol R. LeBlanc of Raceland, or Anna B. Cunningham of Morgan City. Among the male candidates (list two) are Irving Blatt of Schriever, James Cantrelle of Raceland and Howard Castay of Morgan City.

In the Tri-parish or Assumption Parish area, no females qualified to be a delegate for Obama at the convention.

However, voters will have a choice of electing two men to act delegates for Obama: Ferdinand Block of Thibodaux and David Huynh of Morgan City.
