Terrebonne Parish District 5 Councilman Johnny Pizzolatto has announced his intention to seek re-election while completing his first term at that position.

A retired lieutenant colonel with the Louisiana National Guard and independent businessman, Pizzolatto formerly served seven years on the Terrebonne Parish School Board and was board president for three years. He was also a member of the Water District No. 1 Board for two years.

“Upon completing my first term on the parish council, I believe I have the experience, dedication and knowledge to serve the citizens of District 5,” Pizzolatto said. “As a retired businessman, my time is committed to keeping District 5 a great place to live.”

Pizzolatto pointed out as one of his accomplishments the closing of the American Legion Pool after it had deteriorated to the point of being a danger and eyesore. He was behind the installation of a drainage pump at the end of Williams Avenue and instrumental in seeing that a drainage ditch at the beginning of Bayou Grand Caillou was covered.

The Republican councilman said that within the next three months two basketball courts would be built to enhance recreational opportunities for children. One will be located on Gum Street and the other on the east side of Park Avenue, under the bridge at the Downtown Marina Park.

Pizzolatto noted his concern regarding public safety from natural disasters. “I have and will always support hurricane protection projects that include levees and pump stations needed throughout Terrebonne Parish,” he said.

District 5, under new mapping, has boundaries from Captains Court to Westview Drive along Park Avenue, and along Main Street from Howard Avenue to Hollywood Road. Pizzolatto represents neighborhoods near Terrebonne High School, the downtown area of “Old Houma” and those extending to Coteau Road and Prospect Road.

Pizzolatto and his wife, Agnes, have two children, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
