Houma Police were called to 214 Peter St. last Wednesday evening because a woman was causing a disturbance.

Lt. Todd Duplantis said once officers arrived on the scene around 9:19 p.m., the woman, Adrian Smith, 17, of 214 Peter St., continued using vulgar language and creating a disturbance outside the residence.

When police attempted to handcuff Smith for disturbing the peace, she hit the officer several times in the chest, Duplantis said. Then she began hitting her head on the street pavement, he said. The arresting officer, in the meantime, called for backup and tried to keep Smith from hurting herself.

When backup police arrived to help, Smith kicked them on the legs several time and kicked one in the groin area, Duplantis said.

Smith was placed in the back seat of a police unit where she began kicking the side window and banging her head against the cage partition, the spokesman said. Duplantis said an officer had to get into the back seat of the unit with Smith and physically hold the woman to prevent her from harming herself.

Smith was arrested for disturbing the peace by using offensive/derisive words, three counts of battery on a police officer and resisting an officer.

She was transported to the Terrebonne Parish Jail.
