A marine curfew at the Houma Navigational Canal has been lifted by the U.S. Coast Guard, according to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.

The announcement came in conjunction with a DOTD maintenance and repair project that began on Monday.

Channel restrictions are from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and 1 to 6 p.m. From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., marine vessels are allowed passage with the bridge opening but no signal.

Normal curfew times for the structure have been from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and from 12:45 to 1:15 p.m. This means the bridge may be open to marine traffic when it is usually open for vehicular traffic.

The HNC Bridge is closed to vehicular traffic from 8:30 a.m. to 4:40 p.m. this week while repairs are made. Extended maintenance closures have been placed on hold and will be announced at a later date.

Bridge repairs are part of a $9.8 million contract with C.E. C. Inc. that is estimated will involve a total 180 working days.

Repairs will ultimately include replacing the fender system, building a new operating house, making structural repairs, mechanical repairs, installing a new electrical system, making hydraulic system repairs and painting.
