On November 3, 2023, shortly after 10:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a single-vehicle serious injury crash on Louisiana Highway 70 near Louisiana Highway 996. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 66-year-old Keith Caballero of Donaldsonville.

The preliminary investigation revealed Caballero was traveling east on LA Hwy 70 in a curve while driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado. For reasons still under investigation, the Chevrolet traveled off the roadway to the right. Caballero attempted to regain control by steering to the left, but overcorrected causing the Chevrolet to cross the centerline, travel off the roadway to the left, and overturn.

Caballero was not restrained at the time of the crash, suffered serious injuries, and was transported to a nearby hospital. Troop C was later notified Caballero succumbed to his injuries while at the hospital.

A standard toxicology sample was collected from Caballero and is awaiting analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
