Included on the Aug. 28 ballot are candidates for the U.S. Senate race and the U.S. Representative 3rd Congressional District.

Democratic nominees for the U.S. Senate seat are Neeson J. Chauvin Jr. of Carencro, Cary J. Deaton of Metairie and U.S. Rep. “Charlie” Melancon of Napoleonville. Libertarian candidates in the race are Anthony Gentile of Atlanta and Randall Todd Hayes of Mandeville. Incumbent U.S. Sen. David Vitter faces Franklin surgeon Nick J. Accardo and former Louisiana State Supreme Court justice Chet D. Traylor of Monroe in the Republican primary.

Vying for Melancon’s vacant 3rd District congressional seat in the Republican primary are former state House Speaker “Hunt” Downer of Houma, New Iberia attorney and businessman Jeff Landry and Kristian Magar, an oilfield manager who also hails from New Iberia.

According to the Louisiana Secretary of State Jay Dardenne’s website, voters who elect to cast a ballot before the Aug. 28 primary are not required to provide a reason.
