10:03 p.m. 

Walter Lanier III has been named the Judge of the 1st Circuit Court of Appeals, defeating Ellen Doskey with 82 percent of the vote.

In Lafourche School Board District 3, Cheryl Thomas defeated Alfred Carter with 60 percent of the vote. 


In District 9, Randy Schouest will be in a run-off with Julie Breaux. Schouest got 45 percent of the vote, while Julie Breaux getting 29 percent. They beat Cally Bonvillain, who generated 26 percent of the vote. 

In District 12, Robby Gisclair will carry the seat after soundly beating incumbent Ann Sanamo with 74 percent of the vote. 

On the Terrebonne School board Michael Lagarde unseated Roosevelt Thomas with 53 percent of the vote in District 1. 


9:49 p.m. update

The Lafourche Parish Council’s bid to increase an existing tax for waste collection will fail. 


With 98 percent of the vote in, 58 percent of voters have opted against the measure as opposed to 42 percent yes.

Parish President Jimmy Cantrelle has warned that a “no” vote could mean reduced waste pick-up in the future. But opponents said the parish could find a better solution in the future.


9:40 p.m. update

The Terrebonne School Board is starting to take shape. 

Greg Harding (District 2) won re-election, scoring 60 percent of the vote over Woody Shamblin.


In District 3, Matthew Ford defeated Richard Jackson with 71 percent of the vote. 

In District 4, Debra Benoit won re-election with 64 percent of the vote over Nelson Kramer Jr. 

In District 5, Stacy Solet, defeated Christopher Chiasson with 67 percent of the vote. 


In District 6, Clyde Hamner will be in a run-off with L.P. Bordelon. Hamner won 47 percent of the vote with Bordelon securing 22 percent.

They beat out Marue Soudelier (14 percent), Steven Schexnayder (13 percent) and Gary Hutchinson (5 percent).

In District 8, MayBelle Trahan defeated Donald Duplantis with 62 percent of the vote.


In District 9, Dane Voisin secures the seat with 65 percent, defeating Vicki Bonvillain (25 percent) and Sarina Lirette (10 percent).

9:32 p.m. update


Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Jerry Larpenter believes his attempt to raise taxes to help the operating costs of the Sheriff’s Office will fail.

Speaking on HTV-10’s election coverage, Larpenter said he believes the tax will fail, adding that his office will now have to plan for cuts to offset its current deficit. 

At time of this update, 92 percent of votes have been counted and 67 percent of voters were opposed to the tax.

9:25 p.m. update


Troy Dufrene will be a member of the Lafourche Parish School Board. He defeated Calvin Duet with 56 percent of the 1,823 ballots cast. 

On the Greater Lafourche Port Commission, Perry Gisclair (Divison B) defeated Perry Comeaux; Jimmy “T-Jim” LaFont (Division C) defeated Kris Gaudet; John Melancon (Division G) defeated Dickey Cheramie and Bob Duet; Charles Callais (Division H) defeated Francis Bruce; and Kris Callais (Division I) defeated Andrew Martin. 


9:06 p.m. update:

In Lafourche School Board District 1, there will be a run-off between Christine Naquin Babin and Pamela McCann. 

Babin carried 47 percent of the vote, while Pamela McCann carried 20 percent.


They beat out Donald Johnson and Frank Pasqua. 

On the Thibodaux City Council District A, Republican Eric Tabor defeats Gretchen Caillouet (no party) with 61 percent of the 2,089 ballots cast. 


8:32 p.m. update:

Early results are in for the sheriff’s tax. 

In Terrebonne, 66 percent of absentee voters opted no for Sheriff Jerry Larpenter’s measure to increase taxes to support the Sheriff’s Office. 34 percent of absentee voters said yes. More than 6,000 absentee ballots were cast.
