The ex-girlfriend of a Houma man was arrested earlier this month after breaking into his apartment and stealing a digital video camera, according to a Houma Police spokesman.

Desarea M. Chauvin, 23, of 109 Beham Court, Thibodaux, allegedly broke into the residence, located in the 100 block of Jackson Street in east Houma, around 7:27 p.m. Jan. 5, said Lt. Todd Duplantis.

The boyfriend told police that, after being gone all day, he returned to his residence and noticed his video camera was gone. The Houma man said he suspected Chauvin of having committed the crime because of previous conversations the two had had, the spokesman said.

On Tuesday morning, Houma Police detectives arrested Chauvin for simple burglary and the digital video camera was recovered, Hyatt said.

Chauvin was transported to Terrebonne Parish Jail to await bond or trial.
