Who said there’s no such thing as a free lunch? Or breakfast, for that matter.

St. Mary Community Action will offer free lunches and, in a few areas, free breakfast to students parishwide from June 7 through July 16. All of the feeding sites will be closed July 5 for the Independence holiday.

Free lunches will be available weekdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Breakfast will be offered from 8:30 to 9 a.m.

Sites for free lunches in east St. Mary Parish are:

• Amelia: J.S. Aucoin Elementary School, 739 Julia St.

• Siracusaville: Siracusa Recreation Center, 1106 Grace St. (breakfast and lunch)

• Morgan City: Maitland Elementary, 1907 Federal Ave.

• Bayou Vista: Bayou Vista Community Center, 1333 Belleview St.

• Patterson: Patterson Jr. High, 1101 First St. (breakfast and lunch)

In west St. Mary Parish, youngsters can visit the following sites:

• Franklin: St. Mary Parish Alternative Center, 131 Clausen Road S.

• Baldwin: Mickey Mouse Head Start Center, 801 Martin Luther King St. (breakfast and lunch)

• Charenton: JUD Hall, 3041 Chitimacha Trail (breakfast and lunch)

• Jeanerette: West St. Mary Civic Center, 1498 La. Highway 318 (breakfast and lunch)

St. Mary Community Action CEO Almetra Franklin said the program is open to all children.

“In this season, with the recession and our fishermen whose livelihoods are affected because of the oil spill, it’s a blessing that we’re able to provide this opportunity to any child,” Franklin said.
