The Houma-based Federal Emergency Management Agency Recovery Center will be the third in the Tri-parish area to close shop and will do so this week, according to FEMA spokesman H.R. Holman. The center, helping residents that suffered losses from Hurricane Isaac, is housed at the American Legion Hall. Holman was not certain what day would see an official departure of federal agents.

The Lafourche Parish center in Mathews closed Oct. 1 and representatives in St. Mary Parish filed their final report Saturday.

According to data provided by Holman, approved claims filed in Lafourche parish totaled more than $3.2 million for housing and $416,622 for other needs. St. Mary Parish totals were listed as $1.7 million for housing assistance and $165,555 for other needs.

As of noon Thursday, FEMA officials had seen 3,761 registrations in Terrebonne Parish. Approved housing needs totaled more than $2.7 million and other needs totaled $337,953.

“Although the center will close, Hurricane Isaac survivors can still contact FEMA online at www.disasterassistance.gov or via web-enabled phone at m.fema.gov,” Holman said. “Applicants may also call (800) 621-3362 or TTY (800) 462-7585. Relay or video relay services are available at (800) 621-3362. Toll-free telephone numbers operate from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.”

The U.S. Small Business Administration operating out of the Houma disaster center also has continued service at (800) 659-2955 and at www.sba.gov.

FEMA recovery centers were established in most Louisiana parishes following Hurricane Isaac to assist homeowners, renters and business owners who sustained uninsured or underinsured losses to real or personal property. Hurricane Isaac made landfall at Grand Isle on Aug. 28.
