The final cap on the BP PLC oil well that blew wild on April 20 bears a memorial to the 11 men killed in the explosion that touched off the nation’s largest oil spill.

The government’s point man for the spill n Rear Adm. Paul Zukunft n says the “capping stack” was installed last Monday on the well a mile below the surface. He says it was the final step in plugging and abandoning the Macondo well.

In a teleconference last Wednesday, he described the memorial design first as 11 stars, and later as an 11-point star, with each point representing a live lost in the explosion.
