Chris Domangue, R-Houma, a financial planner for DL Wealth Management, announced that he is running for the District 5 seat of the Terrebonne Parish Council.

Domangue, who is a Chauvin native, said his primary focus as councilman would be to foster an environment in Terrebonne that encourages business growth. He also said he would work to improve the quality of life in the parish.

Domangue, who ran for the position in 2011, received 26 percent of the vote. Christa Duplantis-Prather won in a run-off election against incumbent Councilman Johnny Pizzolatto.

Domangue is also known for his fight against Vangaurd Environmental, a waste disposal company that disposes of wastewater generated by the oil and gas industry.

District 5 stretches from Westside Boulevard to Howard Avenue and jigsaws from Martin Luther King Boulevard to North Hollywood Road. It includes the Lisa Park and Broadmoor neighborhoods, a large part of downtown Houma, and the neighborhood bound by New Orleans Boulevard and North Hollywood Road.

“Keeping and creating high-paying jobs in our parish is critical during this challenging economy,” Domangue said. “Attracting, retaining, and growing business is how we get it done.”

Domangue said incentivizing business growth requires a spectrum of issues. Domangue’s goals run the gamut from improving road infrastructure to reinvesting in the Terrebonne Economic Development Authority.

The Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government gutted TEDA’s finances and placed its duties within the parish’s Planning Department after they incurred more than $23,000 in questionable expenses in 2013.

House Bill 200, sponsored by state Reps. Joseph Harrison, R-Napoleonville, and Lenar Whitney, R-Houma, restructured the organization and was signed into law last week by Gov. Bobby Jindal.

“We need pro-business people [on the council] to make it work,” Domangue said.

He also supports the move to make East Main Street and East Park Avenue one way as they cross the Twin Span from Howard Avenue – its junction at La. Highway 661. However, Domangue said waiting for the Department of Transportation to build bridges crossing Bayou Terrebonne in that area could take years, and suggested the parish bankroll the bridge construction to complete the project sooner.

Domangue holds a bachelor’s degree with magna cum laude honors in computer science, which he earned from Louisiana Tech University in 2001. He also holds a master’s degree in business administration from Louisiana Tech, which he earned the following year. He has also been a notary public since 2006.

Domangue is a member of the South Central Industrial Association, Krewe of Terreanians, and the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce. Domangue is also a 2007 graduate of Leadership Terrebonne.
