Fire district, recreation tax renewals OK’d

Voters in Terrebonne Parish Recreation District No. 6 passed overwhelmingly two funding proposals in last Saturday’s election, while an annual 16-mill property-tax proposal for the parish’s Fire Protection District No. 6 also was approved easily.

Voters passed a 10-mill, 10-year property tax and approved a $1.4 million bond to fund operations, maintenance and new construction in the recreation district. The two proposals passed by similar margins, 67 percent for the tax and 68 percent for the bond, which will be paid off over 20 years.

The 10-year, 16-mill fire protection tax was approved by 68 percent of the voters in the district.
