Our area’s technical college was recently recognized for having one of the best nursing programs in Louisiana.

Fletcher Technical Community College’s Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program was ranked No. 8 in the top 10 best RN programs in Louisiana by RegisteredNursing.org this week, a huge honor for the locally based school.

The website ranked the top nursing schools by looking at current and historical data to determine the number of students who pass the NCLEX-RN exam, which, according to a news release issued by Fletcher, shows a school’s comptency and ability to train students.

“We are indeed very proud to have received this recognition for our Associate of Science in Nursing program,” Fletcher Chancellor Dr. Kristine Strickland said. “This top ten ranking affirms to our students and our community that we are providing the finest education in the nursing field. Our faculty and staff are to be commended for their efforts in achieving this recognition. We look forward to continuing to serve the workforce needs of the Bayou Region in the field of nursing.”

Dean of Nursing and Allied Health, Dr. Sonia Clarke, said the ranking shows that the hard work and commitment the school has put into its program is paying off in a big way.

“The national accreditation of the ASN Nursing program was a milestone and indication of the dedication and hard work the nursing faculty and staff have put forth,” Clarke said. “Our students and graduates provide the foundation of the healthcare workforce and this program recognition affirms the strength of our program.”
