A Galliano man convicted in November of armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon was sentenced last Thursday by state District Judge John E. LeBlanc.

Gavin Galjour, 33, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for armed robbery, and given an additional 15 years for the gun charge, totaling a consecutive 35 years without probation, parole or suspension of sentence.

Galjour was convicted of several felonies, including possession with intent to distribute marijuana, stemming from an incident on Feb. 16, 2006, in a FEMA trailer in Galliano. The victim was visiting a resident there when Galjour pulled a semi-automatic pistol on the victim and demanded his wallet and money.

Also last week, former Golden Meadow Police officer Brian Commardelle pled guilty as charged to a malfeasance charge.

The plea was not the result of a plea bargain, instead coming with no promise of a fixed sentence.

Commardelle, 26, of Lockport was allegedly making traffic stops on undocumented Hispanic males and asking for money in exchange for not issuing a citation. On July 28, 2005, a trooper posing as an undocumented Hispanic was stopped and let go without a citation after Commardelle took $400 in marked bills from the undercover officer.

He was sentenced to three years in jail, a $1,000 fine, and 16 hours of community service per month while on probation by State District Judge Jerome J. Barbera III. After a year in jail, the balance of the sentence will be suspended and he will be on probation for three years.
